We are the women and men who support and care for your parents, your aunties and uncles, your sisters and brothers in nursing homes across Chicagoland, but today we are asking for your support.
We can no longer choose between caring for your family and our own, and so, we have decided to stand together as part of what will be the largest strike of nursing home workers in the history of our country.
Nursing home owners are demanding we continue to accept low wages, in fact, they are asking us to sign a waiver accepting a wage lower even than the Chicago minimum wage.
That means that to pay for our most basic needs, we have to work so much overtime that we don't actually get to spend enough time being a parent, a friend or really, to feel much like a human being.
So we can care for your families AND ours too, almost five thousand of us across the state have made the difficult decision strike, to demand that for-profit nursing home operators respect us.
We don't want to strike, but they are leaving us no choice.
Show your support below by pledging to buy a pizza ($12) for picketing nursing home workers IF we go on strike.
